A FAMILY educational day is promising the earth, the planets and the stars to visitors when they attend the Planet Discovery Day at Salisbury Cathedral.
There will be an inflatable six-metre Mobile Planetarium inside the cathedral and a short film We Are Guardians will be screened. The film looks at links between human activities and climate change.
Visitors can also explore Our Earth - the current art exhibition focussing on climate change and the environment.
There will be craft making and a scavenger hunt around the cathedral and a special book from the Cathedral’s 15th Century library on Astronomy will be on display.
Shows inside the Planetarium dome will run every hour from 9.30 am on Saturday, October 5. At 12.15, attendees can be swept away in the musical event of Holst’s The Planets which is played on the Willis Organ by the Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music, John Challenger.
It is suitable for children in Key Stages 2 and 3. Note the 10.30 am show is exclusively for those visitors with access requirements.
